CIFP signs fair play agreement with SportAccord

The International Fair Play Committee (CIFP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the SportAccord, the union for both Olympic and non-Olympic international sports federations.

The aim of the 3-year agreement - which was signed by Dr. Jeno Kamuti (President of the CIFP) and Marius L. Vizer (President of the SportAccord) at the Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne on the 5th of November, 2014 - is to promote the fair play ideals in sports at all levels.

SportAccord and the CIFP will cooperate with each other for encouraging meaningful sport and activities among all their members, including courses, projects and meetings. The Memorandum of Understanding commits both parties to develop increased cooperation in the fields of fair play and solidarity.

As the Hungarian leader of the CIFP said after the ceremony: „This Memorandum of Understanding opens up new dimensions for both organizations in the field of promoting the fair play values. Fair play is the morality itself, which has to be incorporated into the educational program of all sport organizations. Of course all fair play phenomena occurred during World Championships and Olympics have to be promoted and through them we must set examples to the sports world. As Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said in his speech "Sport [is] truly the only area of human existence which has achieved universal law," (UNGA, New York in November 2013). After the agreement with the IOC, the signed Memorandum of Understanding with SportAccord will enable us to reach out to more than just Olympic sport federations. Our focus is beyond just elite sports and partnering with SportAccord will enable us to implement programs and policies that can help society grow through sports."

Expressing his happiness over the agreement, Mr. Vizer said, "The signed agreement between SportAccord and the International Fair Play Committee represents a step forward for the two organizations in terms of extolment and recognition of fair play, inside or outside the world of sports.

Those athletes proving high moral standards and fair play become the role models in the society for all generations. We want this partnership to be the preamble of a program supported by both organizations that aims to promote fair-play on all levels within the SportAccord community."
