Fair Play stand at the Junior & Cadet Fencing World Championships 2022

The International Fair Play Committee and the FIE have been working together for many years to promote the Fair Play values to young competitors and their coaches. This year, future fencers in both age groups competed in Dubai from 1-10 April.

The International Fencing Federation is one of the international sport organizations that have formed their own Fair Play Council specifically to recognize Fair Play actions in their sport and to promote Fair Play values. The FIE Fair Play Council announces an annual call for entries of Fair Play acts at fencing competitions and also has a stand in cooperation with the CIFP.

During the 8 days of the competition, the Fair Play stand welcomed competitors, coaches, leaders and parents from morning till early evening. In the middle of the three-parts divided sections the Fair Play stand was located, between Safeguarding and Donation stands. Nearly 600 guests were welcomed to the stand to complete a variety of puzzles, take a fencing quiz and watch the previous day’s finals on the projector in comfort thanks to the cinema-like layout. Visitors received a badge and bracelet made for the event as a souvenir. Present at the FIE Fair Play Council President Bert Van de Flier and member Hilary Philbin, as well representatives of CIFP.

The two organizations will continue to work together in the future to promote Fair Play, setting an example to other sports organizations.
