FISU Family present at 76th AIPS Congress in Sochi

SOCHI – FISU is present at the currently ongoing 76th AIPS Congress which takes place in Sochi, Russia from April 15th to 18th. Sochi is the host city of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

FISU and AIPS became partners in 2005 and since that year, FISU has been present at its partner's Annual Congress, giving the attending journalists an overview of its activities. This year's Congress started with a moment of mourning for the tragedy that happened during the Boston Marathon that killed three and maimed many more when two bombs exploded. 'Today the AIPS Family from all over the world mourns this tragedy', AIPS President Gianni Merlo said. 'Sport is a vehicle of peace. We must defend the rights of athletes, sports lovers and those in our profession who are tasked to report the news, regardless of its horror. Today, AIPS through this Congress and our members throughout the world extend our deepest condolences to the families affected.'

Today's session of the Congress gave the AIPS partners the possibility to make presentations. Once again, FISU was well represented at the AIPS event.FISU Press Officer Christian Pierre made a presentation today about the latest developments for FISU and gave an overview of the 2012 activities. His presentation was followed by the delegates of the Kazan Organising Committee Media Chief Dilyara Khasanova who gave an update of the preparations of the Universiade, which will start in less than 100 days.
