Tokyo 2020 Vaccination and Fair Play

Dear Athletes, Sport Leaders and Friends of Fair Play!

As a two-time Olympic silver medalist fencer and as the President of the International Fair Play Committee, I and the members of our Committee are concerned about the damage that the pandemic could cause to the world sporting scene, particularly to the Olympic movement.

We are delighted, that despite of all difficulties both the Japanese Organizing Committee of Tokyo 2020 and the IOC is doing their utmost to ensure that Tokyo can host the Olympic Games this year even if under restricted conditions.
As a medical doctor and as a responsible leader committed to the idea of Fair Play, first of all I would like to thank the IOC and their partners for providing the backdrop for the vaccines to be administered without any forced obligation for those athletes who are qualified, and those who are expected to qualify, but have not been able to obtain the vaccines due to their circumstances.
Now I would like to bring the idea of Fair Play into this round and emphasize that everyone must think not only about themselves, but also about their fellow competitors or possibly their opponents so that they do not infect them during the competitions.
The spirit of Fair Play is also a fundamental part of Olympic Charta.

Dear Athletes and Sport Leaders,

I respectfully ask you to make sure that, as far as possible, both athletes and officials are vaccinated for the duration of the Olympic Games.

Thank you for your kind attention,

Dr. Jenő Kamuti
President
International Fair Play Committee
