Christiana Pavlou awarded the first ever "Fair Play Trophy for the Youth - Under the auspices of the IOC President".

Member of the Cyprus Canoe Federation and the Limassol Nautical Club, Christiana Pavlou was placed first in the national ranking in her category of the 15-year-olds. On 25 September, at the Cyprus Canoe Sprint National Championship in Limassol, she participated in the K2 200-metre event and won the competition. However, after the race, she went to the race officials and told them that in fact, her team crossed the finish line second and not first. Consequently, she deliberately deprived herself of the title.

In cooperation with the International Olympic Committee, the International Committee for Fair Play (CIFP) established and commended a new award dedicated to the youngest ambassadors of fair play in 2013. The 'Fair Play Trophy for the Youth – Under the auspices of the IOC President' specifically recognizes junior athletes who are committed to the ideals of fair play and who demonstrate and embody their fair play spirit through their acts on and off the sporting field.

The CIFP encourages the youth to respect the written ad unwritten rules of sportsmanship. Anyone can become a fair play hero. Fair play is an attitude.
