Fair Play with young fencers

The FIE Fair Play Council was represented again this year at the FIE Junior & Cadet Fencing World Championships. This event, which took place in the first days of April, was hosted in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Following the tradition of previous years, this year there was a Fair Play stand at the Championships.

The International Fencing Federation places great emphasis on young fencers meeting and hearing about Fair Play. The FIE is leading the way in this area and setting a good example to other sports and federations. This year, the FIE Fair Play Council operated the stand in cooperation with CIFP. Over the 9 days at least 300 competitiors played with Fair Play games and many more visited the stand to talk about sportsmanship, team spirit, and care with the colleagues, Alejandra Benitez, four-time Olympic fencer and member of the FIE Fair Play Council, and Gábor Deregán from CIFP (International Fair Play Committee), who was FIE Fair Play representative at this event.

The stand's excellent location attracted many visitors, as competitors coming in and out of the pists passed by. The various games proved impressive, including Emmanuel Katsiadakis, interim President of FIE, who joined the children for a wood tower-building session.

The two organisations, FIE and CIFP, have been working together for many years, and both are satisfied with the results. Accordingly, CIFP has been invited to next year's Championships.
