Argentine Men’s Épée Team Honoured with FIE Fair Play Award

The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has awarded its 2025 Fair Play Trophy to the Argentine senior men’s epee team, recognising an act of sportsmanship that decided the outcome of a Zonal Championship bout.

The honour was granted on the proposal of the FIE Fair Play Council and approved by the FIE Executive Committee.

The moment of integrity

In the final, at the very last decisive touch, the scoreboard initially showed a point in Argentina’s favour. The athlete who had been awarded the touch immediately intervened and admitted the contact was a self-hit, effectively annulling the touch and conceding the decisive point. That instant decision, prioritising fairness over victory.
