MR AZAD RAHIMOV, MINISTER OF YOUTH AND SPORTS OF AZERBAIJAN HAS PASSED AWAY
Azerbaijan Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov died in the USA, where he was being treated for lung cancer, at the age of 56. The painful news was announced by Samaya Mammadova, Press Spokesperson of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Mr Azad Rahimov received the World Fair Play Award, Trophy for Career, in 2019.
The Minister of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan since 7 February 2006, Mr Azad Rahimov is a real ambassadors of fair play in his country and in the world of sports. Mr. Rahimov is the vice-president of Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee, and he was awarded with a special medal of European Fair Play movement and the International Fair Play Committee in 2009. He was also awarded the Order of Honor in accordance with the Edict of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2015. Mr. Azad Rahimov was the deputy chairman of the Organizing Committees of important competitions held in Azerbaijan, for example the 1st European Games in 2015, the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017 or the Formula 1 Grand Prix. These competitions were organized at the highest level in accordance with the principles of Fair Play. Furthermore, Mr. Rahimov is an active participant of several events in the world of fair play. He attended events like the 15th Congress and Assembly of EFPM in 2009, the joint Congress of EFPM and CIFP in 2015, the 21st General Assembly of EFPM, or the CIFP World Fair Play Awards Ceremonies in Baku, Azerbaijan in 2015 and 2018. Thanks to his hard work and dedication, a number of important international sporting events have been organized in the capital of Azerbaijan. As one of the most active members of the International Olympic Movement, Azerbaijan pays special attention to propagating the principles of fair play in sports and in everyday life. The activities of Mr. Azad Rahimov must be considered as a great contribution to the world sport and the fair play movement.
