Fair Play Awardee Franco Ascani remains FICTS President

The FICTS, Fédération Internationale Cinéma Télévision Sportifs, recently held its elective General Assembly, at which former President Prof. Franco Ascani was unanimously re-elected President of the organisation. The General Assembly took place in Cortina D’Ampezzo, Italy, one of the cities for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Founded in 1983, FICTS is well-known for its annual film festival, “SPORT MOVIES & TV 2023” is the World Final of 20 Festivals (around the 5 Continents) of the “World FICTS Challenge” Championship of Television, Cinema, Communication and Sport Culture scheduled in Milan, Italy, on November 21-25.

The General Assembly was preceded by an Award Ceremony in Treviso Theater the night before (cover photo). Almost every continent was represented at the General Assembly in Cortina d'Ampezzo, from Asia to Europe and Africa to the Americas. Guests heard different presentations, including one from the International Fair Play Committee, presented by Gabor Deregan, Executive Director. Also IOC Member and Honorary Member of FICTS Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul, was present at the event, who praised the interesting and engaging Fair Play presentation.

Guests also had a tour of some of the venues of the 2026 Olympics, some of which were also the sites of the previous Olympics in 1956. Italy has a long tradition of winter sports, just to mention Eugenio Monti, who was the first International Fair Play Awardee in 1965. Monti during the 2-man bobsled final event at the Innsbruck Winter Games he had an excellent timing. Only the British Tony Nash and his partner could have defeated him. But, the moment he knew that Nash had broken a part of his bobsled, Monti detached the same part from his own sledand delivered it to Nash, who then obtained a record time, winning the gold medal.

The re-elected Italian President of FICTS, who is a member of the IOC Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission, thanked the members for their confidence and cordially invited, together with Enzo Cappiello, Secretary General of FICTS, everyone to the Festival in November.

President of CIFP, Dr. Jenő Kamuti is member of the Culture, Education and Youth Commission of FICTS.
