FISU World University Games – in the spirit of Fair Play
The XXXII World University Winter Games were held in Turin, partly at the former Olympic venues, from 13 to 23 January. The International Fair Play Committee and the International University Sports Federation (FISU) have again jointly invited nominations for the Torino 2025 Fair Play Award.
The two organisations have been working together for many years, having already awarded the most sportsmanlike competitor at the 2013 Winter Universiade, also held in Italy, Trento.
Dr. Jenő Kamuti, President of the International Fair Play Committee, has won the Universiade four times as an invidual athlete and once as a team, making him one of the most successful competitors in the history of the World University Games.
The former fencer, who is a surgeon in private life, has an undisputed commitment to university sport and his dual career is a role model for today’s athletes on how to combine sport and learning at the same high level. The venue of this event is particularly close to the heart of the President of Fair Play, who won his first Universiade in Turin in 1959.
The International Fair Play Committee was represented in Turin by its President Jenő Kamuti and Gábor Deregán, Executive Director, who, among others, had discussions with FISU President Leonz Eder, with FISU Deputy Secretary General Paulo Ferreira and FISU Hungarian Board Member Ágnes Ancic-Valkai (cover photo). In addition to the very high quality opening ceremony, the Hungarian sports leaders attended several official meetings, like the German reception on the occasion of the Rhein-Ruhr FISU World University Games 2025, and programs in Turin. The next World University Games Summer will be held in Germany this July.
