Volunteers at the Universiade are four times the population in Iceland
SHENZHEN,August 15,2011 -It is rare to get the opportunity to experience such a big event, like the Universiade. Especially because there is no athlete competing from Iceland. But coming here as made me realize how small my country is. For example there are more volunteers here in Shenzhen for the Universiade, than the total population of Iceland. The volunteers number about 1,2 million but the population of Iceland is only 320 000. .

And that was exactly the case on Friday night as the 152 national delegations of the 2011 FISU Summer University Games lined up — a line up that stretched for miles — outside Shenzhen Bay Stadium, awaiting their chance to be welcomed into the Games' opening ceremonies.
Chinese president opens 26th Universiade
SHENZHEN, August 13, 2011 - The 26th Shenzhen Summer Universiade has been opened officially by the Chinese president Hu Jintao, in a colourful event at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre also known as the Spring Cocoon in the South Coast of China.
