Almost five decades after winning the UNESCO-Award for his sport career in fencing, Olympic silver medallic fencer dr. Jenő Kamuti, President of CIFP and Sportsman of the Hungarian Nation, has been honoured as a leader for his work in promoting Fair Play.
Jenő Kamuti was in Istanbul at the invitation of Prof. Ugur Erdener, President of the Turkish Olympic Committee and Mr. Erdogan Aripinar, President of the NOC's Fair Play Committee, to attend the Turkish Fair Play Award Ceremony as the President of the International Fair Play Committee, which celebrates its 60 years anniversary this year. The Hungarian sports leader gave a speech, presented a Turkish Fair Play Award at the ceremony, and he also was awarded the Turkish Olympic Committee’s Medal of Merit for his work for promoting and strengthening Fair Play ideas.
‘It was a huge surprise for me to receive this award , I did not expect to be among those honoured and to receive a special welcome. I am very happy, because this is actually my "second" Fair Play Award. The first one, the UNESCO Fair Play Award was awarded to me in 1977 for my fencing career, as an athlete, and this award today I received as a sports manager’ – said Jenő Kamuti, who has been the President of the International Fair Play Committee since 2000.
The Turkish Olympic Committee also honoured Mr. Gabor Deregan, Executive Director of the International Fair Play Committee, for his ‘excellent and deicated work for Fair Play’.
