Russia Reaffirms Commitment to Fair Play and Anti-Dopping Cooperation

Speaking at the international conference “Preserving the Integrity of the International Sports System: New Challenges for Sports Management” in Moscow, Russian Deputy Sports Minister Alexander Nikitin highlighted his country’s intention to rebuild trust through active engagement in the global fight against doping.

Nikitin emphasized that fair play is at the heart of Russia’s current sports strategy, affirming that the nation seeks partnership with all international bodies, including the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). “Our main priority is the fight against doping, and Russia is an ally to every organisation committed to clean sport,” he told Russian News Agency (TASS).

A Path Toward Rebuilding Trust

The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) recently participated for the first time in the annual WADA conference—despite still lacking full compliance status. According to RUSADA’s Director General, the agency maintains an ongoing dialogue with WADA, even though formal reinstatement discussions have not begun.

The challenge, however, remains significant. The sporting world has not forgotten the consequences of a decade marked by manipulation scandals, legal disputes, and major violations of anti-doping rules. WADA President Witold Bańka recently reiterated that Russia remains non-compliant and stressed the need for future audits to ensure full transparency and accountability.

Fair Play as a Foundation for the Future

Nikitin’s call for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and joint educational programmes represents an effort to reframe Russia’s place in the international sports community. By positioning fair play as both a guiding value and a practical commitment, Russia aims to demonstrate that the pursuit of clean sport is not only a national priority but a shared responsibility.

For the international fair play movement, this renewed message serves as a reminder that integrity in sport must be built collectively, through cooperation, transparency, and an unwavering dedication to athletes’ right to compete on equal terms.
